Scholarships & Travel Grants

Region 4 is pleased to support the athletes, coaches, and judges in our Region.  Since January of 2011 Region 4 has given over $120,000 in Travel Grants and Scholarships.

Our Regional Championships is the primary fundraiser for these funds.  It is the support of our Regional Championships by the clubs in our Region that makes all this possible.

Using Scholarships & Grants

Policies concerning Travel Grants:

The Regional Board of Directors will vote on all funding at their annual meeting held at regional championships each year, or by special vote if requested after teams are named.  No funds may be distributed by the Regional Chair without the prior approval of the board of directors. According to the Rules & Policies of Region IV USAGTT, a quorum is:

SECTION VI: QUORUM

The members holding one-half of the votes, which may be cast at any meeting, shall constitute a quorum at such meeting. If a quorum is not present at any meeting of members, a majority of the members present may adjourn the meeting at any time without further notice. At any adjourned meeting at which a quorum shall be present, any business may be transacted which might have been transacted at the original meeting; withdrawal of members from any meeting shall not cause failure of a duly constituted quorum at that meeting.

The board will use all documentation such as application, competition results, specific need and yearly budget to determine scholarship and grant amounts.

Travel grants will be a reimbursement or direct payment to National Travel Systems, airline, hotel, or USA Gymnastics.  Funding is not only based on competition but also team participation and appropriate behavior while on assignment.  Athletes that are put on probation or the assignment is terminated early, would be grounds for non-funding.  Only injuries that occur or an incident that exacerbates the previous malady while at the event will be considered and taken into consideration when funding is requested.  Known previous injuries or sport psychology issues precluding participation will be cause for non-funding.  The athlete and personal coach must fully disclose any pre-existing injuries or other issues that might inhibit full participation PRIOR to departure for the competition.  No travel grant may exceed total expenditures of each specific competition.  Receipts showing payment for hotel, travel and entry fees must accompany each grant application.  If the athlete violates the funding policy while at a competition will either not receive funding or if funding has been prepaid, will be required to repay the region for the funding given.
